Size: Small Cabinet
7.4x2.9x2.5 cm
Location: Dzhegandas River
North Caucasus, Russia
Description: One of the most unique specimens to come out of the ground. An approximately 250 million year old Mesozoic era fossil Belemnite with Pyrite. This specimen is my only one that has the Pyrite reaching up most of the Belemnite and on the top. Pyrite formed where the soft parts of the cephalopod body were. The fossil part is the guard and was thought to be the counterweight of the cephalopod. A larger than usual specimen. Has been repaired as many of these specimens are. Weight 68 grams.
