Malachite and Cuprite specimen
Size: Cabinet
13.5x10.3x7.1 cm
Location: Morenci Mine,
Clifton Morenci District,
Greenlee County, Arizona
Description: A large 5" wide cabinet specimen of malachite and cuprite from Morenci that has an interesting combination of copper oxides and probable secondary antlerite. The matrix is a brecciated limonite with massive cuprite filling the fractures throughout. On the top surface, green botryoidal malachite coats the cuprite, then a second darker green micro species with antlerite crystal form coats much of the malachite (antlerite not confirmed). The specific locality of Morenci was visually verified by Evan Jones about four years ago. An important, large cabinet size Arizona copper oxide specimen. Ex. Clifford Awald Collection, dispersed in 2007. Weight is 2lb, 8oz (986g).
